How do you know if your computer has been hacked?

Computer hacks have been around since the beginning of time or well at least since the first ever computer was sold. Initially they were simple pranks done by youth with a lot of free time and great imagination. But with time, hacking has changed and more sophisticated tools are now used and much more damage can potentially be done. Attacks on major organizations to steal sensitive user data is now something we hear about almost every day.

Not only large companies are targets for computer hacks, everyday internet users are also faced with more severe threats today than they used to be in the past. It has become so regular that almost everyone’s computer is compromised at least one time in their lives.

So the question is, how do you know if your system has been breached?

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR COMPUTER HAS BEEN HACKED

1. Re-occurring popups – This is most common cause people face. You might start seeing random popups in your web browser while browsing internet pages that don’t usually spam with popups. This is the first sign that your computer is being hacked.

2. Passwords changing. Your online passwords suddenly changed; perhaps you received a phishing email. Hackers send authentic-looking emails asking users to change their passwords by clicking on a link in the email. The hacker can then get your personal data and change your password to lock you out of your own account.

3. Fake emails being sent from your account. When a virus attacks your email account it can send spiteful emails to all your contacts. This is not a dangerous situation and it doesn’t have to mean that your computer has been hacked. But, if your contacts see your name and email address, your computer system has probably been hacked.

4. Your antivirus stops working and cannot be re-enabled. There are lots of malware types that disable your antivirus and stops Task Manager from opening when you try to do so. This is a true signal  that your computer has been hacked.

5. Unidentified software installed. You find software on your computer that you did not install yourself. Usually it will come with software you install manually, with a message saying another software will be installed on your system.

Apart from these signs, never click on links from unknown websites or services, they are often scams designed to gain access to your computer.
